Art in Montreal was created to provide some critical coverage of the contemporary art being shown in the city. It was inspired by the lack of such an outlet publishing in English and in recognition of the embarrassing ignorance of Anglo-Canadians about work in the French province.
Its author is an art historian who specializes in Québécois art and film of the 1960s and 70s.
